On Power – Aston Villa Stairs – Commercial Flooring
It’s always lovely to be called by a repeat customer and in this case PSC flooring were called back in by a third-party contractor (On Power) to refurbish two flights of steps in the Holte End of Aston Villa’s ground at Villa Park. Furthermore, this time an urgent job, as both flights of steps needed to be completed today, ready for the big match that evening, so time (particularly drying time) was of the essence.
On Power Brief and Aston Villa Stairway Recommendation
The end client, Aston Villa, wanted a hardwearing flooring solution to handle high foot traffic during football matches and concerts. Additionally, they requested a hardwearing, anti-slip resin floor in grey, which would be easy to clean and dry in time for the evening match. PSC recommended two coats of Polyaspartic Fast Cure Resin in mid-grey, with 0.4-0.8mm quartz aggregate for anti-slip on the treads, along with safety yellow bands on all steps. Moreover, the benefit of Polyaspartic Resin is that it cures quickly, drying within an hour, and can be laid at lower temperatures than Epoxy, while remaining highly durable.
It’s all in the Prep Work
Firstly, we needed to remove the old green resin coating system to fully prepare the two flights of steps in the Holte End. We used a totally enclosed handheld 110v diamond grinder to clean and prepare the steps. Then, we cleaned the entire floor area of all residues and dust using a 110v triple motor vacuum. Afterward, we repaired any localised damaged concrete, holes, and bolt holes using resin filler as required.

Once all the preparation work was complete two coats of Resdev Pumadur PAS Polyaspartic Polyurethane Resin, in the end clients chosen Mid Grey gloss, incorporating a 0.3 to 0.6mm quartz anti slip aggregate. After that, a 50mm band was then masked out on each tread and a 50mm band to each upstand and was laid in Resdev Pumadur PAS Polyaspartic Polyurethane Resin in the clients chosen Safety Yellow.
In conclusion, both flights of steps were completed in just one day and ready for the big match that evening!
