Severn Valley Foods – Food Grade Flooring
Client Brief and Recommendations
The client was looking for a food grade, seamless, hygienic, hard wearing, chemical resistant resin screed, that was easy to clean. PSC proposed to install a 6mm Resdev’s Pumadur RT polyurethane screed and 100mm high polyurethane coving to the perimeter walls, perfect for Butchers and meat processing as it is seamless, providing a hygienic and easy to clean floor surface. At the site visit it was noted that there were failed floor coatings on the concrete that would need to be thoroughly cleaned before installing the 6mm Food Grade Flooring System.
In Preparation
In Preparation for the 6mm Food Grade Flooring System and to remove the failed floor coatings, we used an enclosed floor scabbling machine and enclosed double headed diamond grinding machine, along with totally enclosed handheld 110v diamond grinding machine. Once ground back the floor was then vacuumed clean of all residues and dust.
10mm x 10mm saw cuts were made to door thresholds, around drains and to perimeter of floor area and where necessary to toe in and anchor the Food Grade Flooring screed. Finally, repairs were made to localised damaged concrete and cracks using resin screed and polyurethane mortar compound.

In order to ensure the screed has maximum adhesion one coat of Redev Pumatect epoxy resin primer, including a 0.7 to 1.2mm quartz aggregate was laid. Once dry the nominal 6mm heavy duty Resedv Pumadur RT polyurethane, textured, matt to total floor area, in the clients chosen Chelsea Blue colourway was laid.
Finally for this stage was the recutting of the expansion joints by saw cutting 6mm x 6mm channel to mirror through existing expansion joints and around drains, knock out and infill with polyurethane jointing compound.
The project took 5 days from start to finish and the client will now start erecting all their fridges, cutting rooms and freezes before PSC return to install 100mm high polyurethane coving to the perimeter walls.
