Client Brief And Recommendation
Having taken a moisture meter reading the moisture content in the existing concrete slab was above the normal level and so it was recommended that a DPM epoxy primer be applied before any flooring system was installed.
The client was looking for a flooring system that would be hard wearing yet easy to keep clean. With light industrial use in mind the recommendation was for a DPM epoxy primer followed by a two-coat high build epoxy resin flooring system.
Preparation Of Floor Surface
In order to remove the failed floor paint, clean and prepare existing concrete surfaces the floor was given a medium shotblast using a totally enclosed shotblasting machine. The edges were ground back using a totally enclosed handheld 110v diamond grinder.
The area was then vacuumed clean to ensure all residues and dust are removed. After that, repairs were made to localised damaged concrete, holes, joints, and cracks using epoxy mortar compound and epoxy resin screed.
576 SQM Two-Coat High Build Epoxy Resin Flooring System
Once the preparation was completed one coat of Resdev Pumaprime DPM epoxy resin damp proof membrane priming system was laid to the total 576 square metre floor area.
The two coat, Resdev Pumatect high build, epoxy resin flooring system was then laid, to total floor area, in the clients chosen colour – light grey. Each coat was allowed to cure for a minimum of 18 hours to ensure it was completely dry. The 2nd / top coat needs to be laid within 24 hours to have Intercoat adhesion with the first coat and become one.
The work was completed in just 4 days on time and on budget.
“We are so pleased to get this project completed – the floor looks fantastic. With significant initial investment in the building, we believe continued investment by installing the correct type of floor is money well spent.”
