Bekiaroudis Kebabs Limited – Food Grade Flooring
PSC were recently called in to look at a 250 square meter floor in Bulwell, Nottingham because the clients existing 6mm PU Screed (put down by another supplier) that had only been down approximately 5 years had started to debond and crack even though a 6mm PU screed should have an approximate lifespan of 20 years.
Client Brief and Recommendation
At the site visit immediately it was evident that the previous flooring contractor had screeded over the concrete expansion joints meaning that the substrate concrete floor which had some rising moisture had expanded and contracted, putting pressure on and weakening to the point of cracking the 6mm PU Screed. In order to resolve the issue, PSC recommended it necessary to completely remove the screed using plaining equipment. Preparing the floor correctly and reinstalling a 9mm Resdev Pumadur PU RT Screed floor, cutting 9mm deep expansion joints to mirror the existing expansion joints in the concrete floor and then filled with the matching Resdev Pumexpand V jointing compound to allow the new screed to expand and contract with the concrete slab.
In Preparation
The initial phase of the preparation process involved completely removing the failed screed using plaining equipment. Once the failed screed was removed the moisture in the underlying concrete was evident. The exposed concrete floor was thoroughly cleaned and prepared using a medium shotblast using the shotblasting floor surface preparation machine, powered by generator mounted on a lorry and the edgework by diamond grinding with totally enclosed hand held 110v diamond grinder. Once complete the entire floor was vacuumed clean all residues and dust with 110v triple motor vacuums. Finally to prevent any further damp issues a coat of Resdev Pumaprime DPM (Damp Proof Membrane) was applied to the entire area.
250sqm of 9mm PU RT Screed
9mm of Resdev Pumadur PU RT Screed flooring was hand applied to the entire 250sqm floor in the clients chosen red colourway. Once the screed was dry 140 linier meters of 9mm deep expansion joints were cut to mirror the existing expansion joints in the concrete floor and then filled with the matching Resdev Pumexpand V jointing compound. Overall, the job took just 1 week and was delivered on time and on budget.
