Black Sheep Brewery – Phase 2 – Food Grade Flooring
PSC Flooring is delighted to return to Black Sheep Brewery to complete the second phase of their multi-phase flooring refurbishment project. Black Sheep Brewery, based in Masham, North Yorkshire, has won numerous awards for their brews, including Black Sheep Ale, Milk Stout, Riggwelter, and 54 Lager.
Client Brief and Recommendations
Since this is the second phase of the plan, the client wanted a practical flooring solution for their bottling and packaging area. The failed floor coatings in this area needed to be removed before we could lay the recommended 6mm RT Screed. No falls were required for this area.
In Preparation
We used a completely enclosed triple-headed diamond grinding floor preparation system to remove the failed floor coatings and properly prepare the concrete surface. This system was powered by a 3-phase, 415-volt, 32-amp, 5-pin socket. Next, we meticulously ground the edges with a completely enclosed handheld 110-volt diamond grinder. Afterward, we thoroughly vacuumed the floor to remove all residues and dust.
Finally, we made 6mm x 10mm saw cuts at the door thresholds, around drains, and along the perimeter of the floor area, where needed to toe in and anchor the screed.
400 Square meters of Food Grade Flooring
We first applied one coat of Redev Pumatect MT Moisture Tolerant Epoxy Resin Primer, incorporating a 0.7 to 1.2mm quartz aggregate to improve adhesion across the entire area.
We then laid a nominal 6mm Heavy Duty Resdev Pumadur RT Polyurethane Screed in the client’s chosen red color to match phase 1.
Finally, we recut the expansion joints by saw cutting 6mm x 6mm channels to mirror the existing joints and filled them with matching jointing compound.
We are thrilled to report that we completed the project in just 7 days, exactly as planned and within budget.
