OMC Motor Group – Vehicle Workshop Flooring
PSC were called in by OMC Motor Group to look at a 350 square meter vehicle workshop at their Rochdale Ford Main Dealership. OMC’s Eglin family-owned business has worked in the motor vehicle trade since 1907, making them the oldest family-owned Ford dealership in the country.
Client Brief and Recommendation
OMC Motor Group was looking to give their vehicle workshop a more customer ready look, improving the overall appearance and ensuring the floor complimented their main dealership aesthetic as well as being hardwearing and easy to keep clean.
Furthermore, at the site visit it was evident that the existing floor was extremely worn and heavily contaminated with oil and grease. Therefore, Oil Tolerant Primer coat would be needed to ensure any remaining oil and grease would not leach to the surface and delaminate the final floor finish.
Moreover, in terms of final floor finish it was recommended a two coat Vehicle Workshop Flooring system was installed. This consists of two coats of High Build Epoxy Resin. Also, HB Vehicle Workshop Flooring systems are perfect for busy vehicle workshops as they are hard wearing, easy to clean, impervious to grease / oil and can be laid in bespoke combinations of colours and designs to follow main dealership branding.
In Preparation
To prepare for the recommended 2-coat Vehicle Workshop Flooring system, we used our captive Husqvarna diamond grinder. We grinded back the extremely worn and heavily contaminated workshop floor. Thus, removing as much oil and grease as possible to ensure proper adhesion for the final floor finish.
Afterward, we ground back all the edgework and the areas around the MOT pit and rolling road with a fully enclosed hand held diamond grinder. After that, we vacuumed the entire area to remove all residues and dust. Finally, we repaired any localized damaged concrete, large cracks, and holes using epoxy mortar compound as needed.
The final step in the preparation process was to apply one coat of Resdev Pumaprime OCS oil tolerant primer to neutralise any oil contamination.
350 Square meters of Vehicle Workshop Flooring
Once the primer coat dried, we applied two coats of Resdev Pumatect High Build Epoxy Resin across the entire 350 square meter area in the client’s chosen Mid Grey.
Additionally, we masked out a 300mm wide band around the MOT pit and Rolling Road and laid it with highly contrasting Resdev Pumatect V High Build Epoxy Resin in the client’s chosen safety yellow.
Furthermore, we completed the project from Thursday to Saturday, allowing a full day of curing time before the workshop reopened on Monday. By finishing over the weekend, we minimised closure time. Subsequently, this was the fourth project we completed for OMC Motor Group, and we were thrilled to hear they were pleased with the transformation and had recommended us to another large car group in northern England.
