Peter Cooks Bread – Food Grade Flooring
PSC were called in to look at a 870 square metre floor area for award-winning bakery Peter Cooks Bread. Bromyard based Peter Cooks Bread opened up it’s doors in 2014 and has grown in popularity and hence was looking to expand its production.
Client Brief and Recommendations
The team was delighted to assist Peter Cook’s Bread Ltd with a new resin floor for their commercial bakery and cake-making facility. As a busy commercial bakery, they needed a food-safe floor that was heavy-duty, hard-wearing, and impact-resistant. Additionally, they wanted the floor to be hygienic, anti-slip, and resistant to chemicals and heat. PSC recommended a 6mm RT polyurethane screed for the main 670 square metre bakery area. For the 200 square metre dispatch area, we recommended a 2-coat high-build system, as it did not need to be food-grade flooring.
In Preparation
In order to meticulously clean and prepare the primary concrete floor surface, our team utilised an enclosed triple-headed diamond grinding floor preparation system, powered by a 3 phase, 415 volt, 32 amp, 5 pin socket. Subsequently, the edges underwent grinding using an enclosed hand-held 110v diamond grinder and the floor was diligently vacuumed to remove all residues and dust. Conclusively, in the preparation stage, 10mm x 10mm saw cuts were executed to door thresholds, around drains, and along the perimeter of the floor area, as well as where deemed necessary to toe in and anchor the screed.
670 Square meters of 6mm HF Polyurethane Resin Screed System for Peter Cooks Bread
The first step was to apply one coat of KDR Epocoat Epoxy Resin Primer, with a heavy scatter of 0.7 to 1.2mm quartz aggregate. Furthermore, this enhanced adhesion with the Polyurethane Resin Screed. Once the primer dried, we laid a nominal 6mm Heavy Duty KDR Polyscreed HF Polyurethane in the client’s chosen textured, matte finish, Coleman Yellow. Finally, we recut the existing expansion joints, knocked them out, and filled them with matching jointing compound. Recutting the joints prevents the screed from cracking as the concrete expands and contracts with temperature changes and moisture.
200 Square meters of walkway and dispatch area in High Build Epoxy Resin
In the production area, we thoroughly prepared a designated walkway and applied two coats of KDR Epocoat High Build Epoxy Resin. This process included adding a 0.3 to 0.6mm fine anti-slip aggregate to significantly enhance safety. Similarly, the dispatch area underwent the same rigorous preparation. We applied two coats of KDR Epocoat High Build Epoxy Resin, also incorporating the 0.3 to 0.6mm fine anti-slip aggregate.
From commencement to conclusion, the project was efficiently executed within the span of 8 days. Notably, it was accomplished on schedule and neatly aligned within the client’s budget, further exemplifying our commitment to precision and excellence.
