SMT Autos Hereford – Vehicle Workshop Flooring
SMT Autos Hereford decided to get in touch with PSC so that we could look at their 530 square metres of car workshop and MOT center. The 530 square metre area had areas of old floor paint, oil, and grease contamination throughout that would need to be removed before any flooring system could be installed.
Client Brief and Recommendation
It was explained to us that they had painted the floors themselves twice a year for the last 4 years. Unfortunately, they were disappointed that the paint was not lasting. The client was looking for a professional high-quality workshop and the floor was letting them down. When looking at the floor itself, it was obvious and fair to say there had been little to no preparation other than general sweeping and removal of loose material. Additionally, the material they had used was too thin and not appropriate for their high level of activity. Taking into account the finish they required, and the level of traffic, we recommended that a two coat Resdev Pumatect high build epoxy resin system should be used.
Preparation of the floor surface
The 530 square metre area was thoroughly prepared to remove old floor paint, oil, and grease contamination using PSC Flooring’s own self enclosed grinding equipment. Localised repairs were carried out to the floor and the area was vacuumed free of dust and debris. Once complete a damp meter reading was taken and no damp was found, so a DPM (Damp Proof Membrane) was not needed.

The two coat Resdev Pumatect high build epoxy resin flooring system in the clients chosen light grey was applied, allowing for drying time between each coat. To comply with strict VOSA guidelines, 100mm demarcation lines were applied in Resdev Pumatect high build epoxy resin safety yellow. This job was completed in just 4 days, making use of the Easter weekend bank holiday shut down meaning the minimum downtime for this busy garage.
