PSC were delighted to be asked to transform 580 square metres of resin floor refurbishment project to new printers and warehouse in the West Midlands. PSC have worked with Local print company, Aztec Label Limited before at their 19,000 square foot facility located in Kidderminster where they manufacture a wide range of self-adhesive labels and tags in a variety of colours, sizes, and quantities, including a major NHS contract.
At the Free Site Survey, we discussed the limitations of the printing process and the chemicals used with the client. The printing inks and cleaning products used in the process of printing can stain and degrade the production area floor, so Aztec were keen to ensure the production floor where their flexographic printing presses takes place are hardwearing and easy to clean. We recommended to rejuvenate the old worn-out factory floor a nominal 10mm heavy duty cementitious screed should be pumped first. This should then be followed by a coat of High Build Epoxy Resin and two coats of Polyurethane resin to provide a chemical resistant floor that would give maximum protection against the printing inks and solvents.
In order to remove the adhesive and failed floor paint on the floor, thoroughly clean and prepare existing concrete floor surface using the captive, triple headed diamond grinding machine, and totally enclosed handheld 110v diamond grinder.
The area was then vacuumed clean of any residue and dust. Repairs were then made to any damaged localised concrete, holes, cracks and expansion joints as required using polyurethane mortar compound.
To rejuvenate the floor a nominal 10mm Weber 4610 heavy duty cementitious screed was machine pumped to provide a flat, hard wearing new floor.
Then one coat of Resdev Pumatect high build epoxy resin, followed by two coats of Resdev Pumadur DD polyurethane, chemical resistant resin was laid in the clients chosen Light Grey, to give maximum protection against the printing inks and solvents.
The project took just working 8 days, including the preparation. The new resin floor has completely transformed the old derelict factory into a modern, state of the art printing facility. The result is a spectacular transformation that has provided the client with a new, flat, smooth, hear wearing and chemical resistant resin floor.
