BB Price Limited, a family-owned and operated galvanised forgings and presswork manufacturer, called in PSC to look at installing a 420 square metre trucking gangway in their forge. Based in Halesowen, in the West Midlands (approximately 9 miles south west of Birmingham) the busy metal forge produces forgings that are used in the overhead line electricity and telegraphic industries.
At the site visit it was evident that the existing gangway floors were extremely old, worn and contaminated with oil. Therefore, BB Price Ltd was looking for clear demarcation of the trucking gangways to improve health and safety. As a result, it was recommended that the existing failed 2 to 3mm of resin floor system be removed before a new nominal 6mm heavy duty RT polyurethane would be laid with a 100mm wide edging line.
To remove the failed 2 to 3mm resin floor system, the team used a captive scabbling ride-on preparation machine. Afterward, we prepared the floor using a heavy shot blast with a captive ride-on shot blasting machine to remove dirt, grease, and contaminants and thoroughly clean the concrete surface.
Next, we vacuumed the floor to remove all residues and dust, then made 10mm x 10mm saw cuts around the perimeter, drains, and other necessary areas to toe in and anchor the screed.
We laid 420 square meters of 6mm heavy-duty RT polyurethane screed in the client’s chosen green. Once fully cured, we mirrored the expansion and day joints and filled them with polyurethane jointing compound.
Finally, we added approximately 250 linear meters of epoxy resin edging lines to the trucking gangway. These lines were masked at 100mm wide and laid with Resdev Pumatect V high-build epoxy resin in safety yellow.
The entire job was completed in just 5 working days.
