Collins Design & Build – Ledbury – Food Grade Flooring

PSC were delighted to be called in by previous client Collins Design and Build to look at a 1410 square metre Food Grade Floor in a new production area extension project for a drinks manufacturer in Ledbury. Based in Herefordshire, Collins Design & Build Ltd provides a full range of design, construction and project management services to both private and public sector clients in the region.

Client Brief & Recommendation

At the site meeting Colins Design said that the end client was looking for a hardwearing, food safe floor that would be ideal for a busy drinks production facility. The floor must be laid with falls towards the new drainage system they were installing. PSC recommended that the floor have polymer screed laid to falls with a nominal 9mm HF polyurethane screed finish.

In Preparation

In preparation for the polymer screed the entire floor required grinding back with a totally enclosed triple headed diamond grinding machine to thoroughly clean and prepare the concrete floor. The edge work with totally enclosed handheld 110v diamond grinder.

All residue and dust were then vacuumed up to ensure the floor was clean and residue free.

128 tonnes of polymer screed laid to falls

We laid a primer coat to the 1410 square meter area before 128 tonnes of polymer screed was laid to falls. Laid to an average of 50mm and laid to falls 1.5% towards the drainage channels. This took two weeks to complete.

9mm HF Polyurethane resin screed system to 1410 square metres

We then lightly cleaned and prepared the newly laid polymer screed using the diamond grinding machine and handheld diamond grinder. All dust and residue was then vacuumed clean.

A nominal 9mm heavy duty Resedv Pumadur HF polyurethane screed, in a textured, matt finish in the end clients chosen Dark Grey.

Once dry a 100mm high, 50mm radius polyurethane cove was added to 168 linear metres.

350 linear metres of Expansion Joints were recut. A 10mm x 10mm channel was saw cut to existing expansion joints, knocked out and infilled with matching joining compound. This was done to mirror through expansion joints and around perimeter of drains.

The total project took 5 weeks from start to finish and was completed on time and in budget. Well done team PSC Flooring 👍🏻💪🏻👷🏻‍♂️🦺
