PSC were delighted to be asked Drywite Ltd of Halesowen, Near Birmingham. Drywite Ltd make food products for the fast food industry who were looking for Food Grade Flooring for their acid mixing area.
At the FREE site survey it was noted that the existing resin floor was eroded with the acid and was very uneven and unsafe. Drywite Ltd wanted a new resin floor that was chemical resistant, hard wearing, slip resistant, seamless, easy to clean and could meet the high food hygiene standards.
PSC Flooring Ltd proposed a 6mm Resdev Pumadur RT, heavy duty polyurethane screed. The benefits of the polyurethane screed in the food industry is that are hygienic as they are seamless, impervious and do not support microbial growth. They are also easy to clean and maintain and they can be steamed cleaned at temperatures up to 120C at 9mm thickness. A polyurethane screed also offers the maximum chemical protection of all resin products and could easily withstand exposure to the numerous acids and chemicals that would be used in the area.
In order to existing resin floor and prepare the primary concrete floor surface, our installation team used a diamond grinding machine. The edges then were ground back using a hand-held 110v diamond grinder. The floor was then diligently vacuumed to remove all residues and dust. Finally, in the preparation stage, 10mm x 10mm saw cuts were executed to door thresholds, around drains, and along the perimeter of the floor area, as well as where deemed necessary to toe in and anchor the screed.
The first step was to apply one coat of Resdev Epoxy Resin Primer, with a heavy scatter of 0.7 to 1.2mm quartz aggregate. Furthermore, this enhanced adhesion with the Polyurethane Resin Screed. Once the primer dried, our team laid a nominal 6mm Resdev Pumadur RT polyurethane screed in the client’s chosen textured, matte Red finish. The team then recut the existing expansion joints, knocked them out, and filled them with matching jointing compound. Recutting the joints prevents the screed from cracking as the concrete expands and contracts with temperature changes and moisture.
Finally once dry, they formed 160 linear metres of 100mm high CG polyurethane cove system around the room’s perimeter.
The job was completed on time and within the clients budget.
