6 years on, its great to see the 400sqm of Vehicle workshop flooring we laid at at Jaguar Land Rover specialist Farriers Automotive Limited in Leicester in 2020. Independent family garage, Farriers Automotive Limited, specialises in the service and repair of Jaguar Land Rover motor cars. Relocating to a larger premises in Leicester in 2020, the client had a new purpose-built workshop with a 400 sqm new concrete floor including car bays, inspection pits and a kitchen area.
The clients brief was that they wanted the new workshop floor to be visually appealing, hard wearing and easy to keep clean. They were keen to ensure that all the floor surfaces were unified with clear safety markings and gangways. We recommended a two coat High Build Epoxy Resin flooring system, as it is hardwearing and offers the flexibility to add bespoke demarcation lining around MOT bays, wash bays, ramps, rolling roads, pits, valeting bays etc. High build Epoxy Resin is also impervious to substances such as grease, oil, and fuel, making it the ideal solution. Due to the fact that at the site survey the moisture readings taken at multiple points over the floor, showed readings at between 190 to 220 (170 to 200 is at risk and over 200 is classified as wet) then we suggested that an epoxy resin damp proof primer be laid first.
In preparation for the two coat high build system a captive double-headed diamond grinding machine and a fully enclosed handheld 110V diamond grinder were used to grind back the floor, removing any dirt and properly cleaning and preparing the concrete floor surface. Following a thorough cleaning, resin filler and polyurethane jointing compound were used to fix any locally damaged concrete, expansion joints, fractures, and holes.
Once completed a DPM (Damp Proof Membrane) epoxy primer was laid to the entire area to ensure any moisture left in the new concrete would not delaminate the two coat high build epoxy resin system.
Two coats of Resdev Pumatect High Build Epoxy Resin in the clients chosen light grey was laid to the entire main workshop areas, Canteen Area, Office and Toilet. The inspection pits and kitchen area were finished with a complimentary mid grey. 30 linear meters of 100mm wide demarcation lines were added around the inspection pit area, rolling road and tyre bay areas to highlight the changing heights in Resdev Pumatect V high build epoxy resin Safety Yellow. 75mm wide demarcation lines were added around the 6 ramp areas totalling approximately 85 linear metres.
The job was completed in just 4 days – on time and within budget for the client.
6 years on we have been called in to assess the integrity of the resin as the client is keen to ensure that regular maintenance elongate the life of the floor. Upon assessment the floor is holding up extremely well. The floor has been well used and as such there is some signs of wear and tear. In order to elongate the life of the floor it was recommended that the entire floor be given a light diamond grind and a new top coat of High build epoxy resin. Once dry, new demarcation lining be masked out and completed in the client chosen colourway. This would give the floor a new lease of life.
