Lorne Stewart Facilities Ltd invited PSC to look at 285 square metres of production area floor for their client in a large electrical manufacturer in Swindon. Lorne Stewart Facilities offers technology-driven, bespoke, integrated facilities services, asset management and decarbonisation solutions.
The client was looking for a hard wearing, high gloss, resin screed that would be level and able to withstand the rigors of a busy manufacturing plant.
It was noted at the free site visit that there was a failed existing 3mm resin screed which would need to be uplifted as part of the preparation process. PSC recommended two coats of epoxy resin primer was laid to seal the floor before laying a nominal 3mm epoxy resin self smoothing epoxy resin screed.
In order to prepare the existing floor for the new 3mm screed flooring system, the entire floor was it was necessary to remove the existing failed epoxy resin screed. This was done using the captive scarifying machine and PCD discs on the totally enclosed diamond grinding machine. The floor was then thoroughly cleaned and the exposed concrete floor and existing resin floor surfaces ground back using the totally enclosed diamond grinding machine and a handheld 110v diamond grinder. The floor was then vacuumed and localised repairs to damaged concrete, holes and cracks were carried out using resin filler and epoxy screed.
In order to anchor the screed we installed two coats of Resdev Pumaprime epoxy resin priming system.
Once dry we laid a nominal 3mm Resdev Pumaflow , FeFRA type 5, self-levelling epoxy resin screed, in a Mid Gray gloss finish over two days going around all machines on the production area floor .
This particular project was completed in just 8 working days, leaving the end client with a hard wearing, high gloss, resin screed that would be level and able to withstand the rigors of a busy manufacturing plant.
