As part of an ongoing refurbishment project PSC were called in to refurbish 400 square metres of trucking gangways in a large factory in Worcestershire. The end client, a global manufacturer of advanced carbon and ceramic materials, had engaged a local building firm to carry out a schedule of refurbishment to their Stourport factory.

Client Brief & Recommendation

At the client meeting it was noted that the floor had a layer of failed floor paint that would need to be removed as part of the preparation of the floor. It was recommended the walkway be masked out and completed using a two coat High build Epoxy resin system.

Preparation

A captive double-headed diamond grinding machine and a fully enclosed hand-held 110v diamond grinder were used to grind back the floor in order to remove the failed floor paint and to properly clean and prepare the concrete floor surface. Following a thorough cleaning, resin filler and polyurethane jointing compound were used to fix any locally damaged concrete, expansion joints, fractures, and holes.

400 sqm of factory floor gangways refurbished in a weekend

The walkway was marked out using masking tape and two coats of KDR Epocoat high build epoxy resin, in the end clients chosen gloss, Mid Grey, Slate, Ral 7046 was laid. Once dry a 75mm wide edging line was masked out to gangways and laid using KDR Epocoat high build epoxy resin Linemarker, Safety Yellow.

The project was completed from a Friday to Sunday to minimise disruption to the factory. This was the 5th resin floor phase at this particular factory and they are delighted again with the services from PSC Flooring.
