PSC were called to look at 148 square meter commercial kitchen floor for MSC UK Ltd based in Duddeston, central Birmingham. The MSC kitchen produces cake and desserts to be sold wholesale. The kitchen is made up of a main Kitchen area totalling 96 square metres, a Stores Area totalling 29 square metres and a Chiller room totalling 23 square metres.
At the client meeting it was noted that the floor had failed floor paint that would need to be removed as part of the preparation of the floor. It was recommended that the entire floor be laid with a heavy duty 6mm RT polyurethane screed. 6mm RT polyurethane screed is ideal for commercial kitchens as it is known for its remarkable durability, chemical resistance, and aesthetic versatility.
In preparation for the RT screed the entire 148 sqm was ground back using a captive double headed diamond grinding machine, and hand held 110v diamond grinder to remove failed epoxy resin floor paint and to thoroughly clean and prepare exposed concrete floor.
The area was then vacuumed clean of all residues and dust. 6mm x 10mm saw cuts were made to door thresholds, around drains and gullies and perimeter of floor area and where necessary to toe in and anchor screed.
To ensure there is good adhesion and to prevent moisture rising a coat of moisture tolerant epoxy resin primer was laid with a heavy scatter of 0.6 to 1.2mm quartz aggregate for extra grip.
Finally, a nominal 6mm heavy duty Resedv Pumadur RT polyurethane Screed, textured, matt, in the clients chosen Red colourway was laid.
PSC Flooring Ltd completed the 148 sqms of 6mm RT polyurethane screed in just 2 days including all the preparation
