PSC Flooring were called into an RAF base in Swindon to look at installing Food Grade Flooring in a busy Military Mess Kitchen. RAF Fairford is an operational Royal Air Force (RAF) station in Gloucestershire. For some time RAF Fairford has played host to United States Air Force personnel.

Client Brief and Recommendation

At the site survey it was discussed that the works would need to be carried out in Phases and that there were two parts to this particular phase, a high traffic Mess Kitchen which included Kitchen Prep Areas, Washing Areas, Lobby and Food Serving Area totalling 465 square meters. This had a concrete floor for which a 6mm RT polyurethane screed was the obvious choice. Secondly there was a 160 square meter stores area that required an epoxy resin coating system.

In Preparation

The Mess Kitchen floor area and stores area were prepared using a diamond grinding floor surface preparation machine. The areas were then vacuumed clean to remove all residues and dust with 110v triple motor vacuum.

The Mess Kitchen floor area was was then also primed using Resdev Pumaprine Damp Proof epoxy resin primer.

The Mess Kitchen floor area received a nominal 6mm Resdev RT polyurethane screed. Laid in the clients chosen dark grey and the floor surface was finished with Resdev DD polyurethane clear seal coat.  Finally 160 linear meters of 100mm high Pumadur CG polyurethane cove was installed to the perimiter, in a matching dark grey.

The stores area received a Resdev Pumatect epoxy resin coating system in a matching, dark grey.

The job was completed over a number of phases to accommodate the clients build schedule and other onsite trades.
