PSC were pleased to be invited to look at 240 square metres of vehicle workshop flooring for the Thrumpton Motor Company Ltd of Retford, Nottinghamshire. A busy independent vehicle MOT centre, specializing in MOT’s, car service and repairs.
The client was looking for a hard-wearing vehicle workshop flooring option that would be clean and light reflective and easy to keep clean. It was noted at the site visit the existing concrete was rough and pitted and there were layers of failed floor paint, as well as patches of oil, grease and garage related contaminants. We recommended that the floor receive a thorough diamond grind to clean and prepare and to try and flatten off the pitting. Extensive floor repairs followed by an oil tolerant primer laid to localised areas of contamination before two coats of High Build Epoxy Resin Vehicle workshop flooring system.
In preparation for the recommended two coat High Build system the existing concrete received a thorough diamond grind. The diamond headed grinding discs were used to clean and prepare the rough and pitted surface, removing the layers of failed floor paint. Once completed the floor was vacuumed clean and repairs were made to localised damaged concrete, cracks, as required using epoxy resin filler.
After extensive repairs, an oil tolerant primer was laid to localised areas of contamination to ensure that there was good adhesion with the concrete substrate and prevent oil leaching in the future.
The team then laid 240 square meters of High Build Epoxy Resin Vehicle Workshop Flooring system. Consisting of two coats of KDR Epocoat HB in the clients chosen Light Grey, Steel.
Finally, 100mm wide lines were masked out around the MOT pit area and rolling road totalling 40 linear meters. These areas were laid with KDR Epocoat Linemarker high build epoxy resin in safety yellow.
The project was completed in just 2 days over a weekend to minimise disruption for the client. A big thank you to Mike Fagan for overseeing this project.
